Dispatched from the UK in 1 business day When will my order arrive? I thought that he had left that part of his life behind b This was the follow up to The Business of Dying and I was already prepared for a rather rough ride, and that’s sure what we get in the second novel with ex policeman Dennis Milne, who is for a time known as Mick Kane and later PI Mick Kane, but then Dennis Milne again Dennis Milne is a fascinating character, disgraced copper, assassin but has his own sense of justice.

Leaving didn’t seem plausible.

A Good Day to Die

He made it as far as the Philippines, where working under the name Marcus Kane, he has gone into the diving-supply trade with a former informant. Moreover, the action scenes depicted are really well written and the story line builds a good suspense to keep the reader at it. The way that Kernick described the Philippines made it sound like paradise. The 2nd book in the Dennis Milne series by Simon Kernick. But it was a 4 star read for me due to the ending, I felt it was a bit weaker then I was expecting and I did have some trouble investing in another character who played a key role by the end. He can’t let things go that easily and sets out to find out why Asif Malik was gunned down in a cafe and who did it. I thought this book was brilliant, it just seemed a little more confusing than the first. Return to Book Page.

This was tons better. Milne only kills people who deserve it. But then the sad part of me wants me to be the one to hold him and love him – even though he is a kerhick character lol.

The reason I rated it as a 3, because I think the sjmon could have been better. Visit our Beautiful Books page and find lovely books for kids, photography lovers and more.

I think that many of the crime detective series get better with each book — we learn more and more about the characters and the lives they live and the emotional struggles they face in their chosen line of work. I must be kernikc and admit I couldn’t get into this book. Sep 17, Sabrina Leblanc rated it liked it.

But he is no longer a policeman; no longer charged w When Dennis Milne–now living under an assumed identity in the Philippines–hears that his old friend and colleague Malik has been gunned down in a restaurant, he decides to go back to the violent city he once called home and bring the murderer to justice.

Our maverick ex-cop, Dennis, has relocated to the Phillipines. I will definately look out for more books by this author in the future. Having recognized the man as the killer of his former partner, DS Asif Malik, he shoots him and then decides implausibly to return to London where he was the subject of an intense manhunt to wreck vengeance on Les Pope, the man behi Ex-DS Dennis Milne is partnered with a former informant and running a small hotel and dive shop in the Philippines.

Anyone who enjoyed the first in the series will love this one too. I really enjoy his writings and have so many novels of his to catch up. We are reacquainted with character’s from the past – Ann Taylor mainly who is part of the current story. Just a moment while we sign you in to your Goodreads account.

A Good Day to Die (Dennis Milne, book 2) by Simon Kernick

The writing was magnificent as usual. My fifth Kernick’s novel is close to the bottom of the thrillers heap. I’ll start with what made me like goos book: There are quite a few threads which tie back to the earlier books. I am pathetic I know lol Anyway. Mar 18, Joe Stamber rated it really liked it Shelves: From the beaches of the Philippines to the mean streets of London, a hunt for justice becomes a terrifying battle for survival.

I am exceptionally excited. Book ratings by Goodreads.

Great holiday read and very enjoyable. It features sloppy writing, stilted dialogue, and one of the most moronic endings I have ever been subjected to endure.
