I bought it for the movie, since I loved it a lot, and it met expectations! Because even though I loved the story and the characters, there was a feoidae problem with this book. It’s Warriors on crack, and with a philosophy degree. Long, ridiculous analogies and purple-prosed similes.

And Bluebeard makes for a snarky sidekick, even if his role in the book is downplayed in comparison to his role in the film. A great fun novel of “cats and murder. The story pirlncci good enough, the cat setting a nice new touch.


The plot was easy to follow and it was fun to try to guess who was behind the killings. The author appears to believe in the stance that brooding and negativity are interesting and clever- and so, there is a lot of it. Seriously, this is the kind of book that made me feel smarter for reading it, and that’s not at all what I thought would happen when I started it. Francis later encounters the strange Persian Jesaja, who alludes to escaping from Preterius’ lab and proclaims to be the Guardian of the Dead. He finds a program on the computer that catalogs the new breed’s genetics and breeding, as well as the cats killed to keep from contaminating the lines. Francis wanders around the house and eventually gets to the backyard, where he finds a cat with its throat slashed.

Worth a read, but with a long gap between it and the previous tale. This book was just as the main character, funny and smart, somewhat shocking and definitely surprising.
